If you think of 'two people making love', what image comes to mind? Many people who are willing to verbalise their thoughts will describe a scene where a man and a woman are engaged in a specific sexual activity: vaginal penetration by the penis. In our collective imagination, these very gentle and poetic terms are associated with this sexual practice. Gabrielle wonders why so much importance is attached to penetration in sexual relations. What invisible threads does this representation of sexuality weave in our minds? And what about those people who can't or won't 'make love'... like her?
